When the parents of a young man saw the job appointment letter he received, they were overwhelmed with emotion.
The father said, “Kumbitta Saami unnai kaividala (The god we prayed to hasn’t abandoned you).”
The mother said, “Your education has carried you across the shore.”
After bowing before the family deity, the young man fell at his parents’ feet and received their blessings.
So, where did he study?
A government polytechnic college.
Where did he get placed?
At VinFast, an international electric vehicle manufacturer.
Where is the job located?
In his own hometown — Thoothukudi.
This is the Dravidian Model.

When MoUs (memorandums of understanding) signed for foreign investment are converted into real industries, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s goal is not just economic — but social:
To ensure local residents benefit from employment wherever the factory is built.
When VinFast began its ₹16,000 crore investment project on 406 acres at SIPCOT, Thoothukudi, Industries Minister Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa made it clear:
“Local people must be given jobs first.”
VinFast questioned,
> “We need technically trained employees. Can we really find them in this area? Shouldn’t we go to other districts or even other states?”
Minister T.R.B. Rajaa confidently responded:
> “This is Tamil Nadu.
We have an abundant pool of diploma holders and engineering graduates trained in technical skills.
Just offer training based on your job requirements — you’ll find your workforce right here.”
VinFast said:
> “We need fresh diploma graduates in automobile, mechanical, EEE, logistics, with no arrears.”
From 9 polytechnic colleges — including 2 government colleges — in Thoothukudi district, 344 students were selected.
Under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ (I Am the First) scheme, District Collector Ilampagavath arranged skill enhancement training for them.
In a 1.5-month training, students received:
EV-specific modules
Group discussions
Mock interviews
Practice sessions
Following this, VinFast conducted interviews — and 200 students were selected.
Out of them:
105 were from government polytechnic colleges
95 from private institutions

This is what foreign investment truly means.
It’s not just about numbers in crores.
It’s about opening new and wider doors to the future of Tamil Nadu — and ensuring that the next generation walks through them with dignity.
This is the Dravidian Model under the leadership of Honourable Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
In the next 5 years, VinFast is expected to generate over 3,500 jobs.
So now, in every home with a student enrolled in college or polytechnic,
Parents will continue to pray to the deity they believe in,
While the Naan Mudhalvan scheme and its skill training will ensure those prayers are answered —
With appointment letters in their children’s hands.
